➡️ I've missed out on many of the British "new wave" groups, but I'm learning that each of their bass players adds something wildly unique to their music. I believe I've only heard some of Elvis Costello's bigger hits as a solo artist, but enjoyed traveling back to 1978 to hear his earlier work on "Pump It Up" with his backing band, The Attractions! Bassist Bruce Thomas playfully dances around this song's driving chord progression with tons of chromaticism, nimble fills, and quirky passages. I discuss his punchy tone, his approach on each of his grooves, a music theory breakdown of the chord progressions, and much more!
