In 1909 a big controversy in the news had to do with which American explorer was the first person to reach the North Pole. Frederick Cook made the claim in April 1908, followed by Robert Peary in April 1909. Cook's account was largely dismissed by experts even back then. Peary's claim was taken more seriously for years, although modern scientists tend to reject it. So perhaps neither man actually made it to the pole, despite the bold claims made.

This is another great rag written by Samuel J. Stokes of New Orleans, appears to be the third one published out of the four he was known to have written. Stokes didn't leave behind much else that can be traced apart from the excellent rags. This one was published by L. Grunewald in New Orleans in 1909.
