How many alters have we had? How many alters can someone have with Dissociative Identity Disorder generally?
We hope this video addresses just that!

EDIT: We were sent a link from did-research.org with some remarks from a scientific journal stating the following:
"the number of alters can vary from two up to hundreds or even thousands of fragments. This paper by Kluft (https://scholarsbank.uoregon.edu/xmlu...) is about polyfragmentation and describes 26 patients, including two with parts numbering over 4,000. It also briefly covers the idea that in poly-fragmented systems, most parts are poorly developed or there are clusters of very similar parts. [did-research.org has] never seen any discussion of how many distinct and well developed parts are possible, but the paper seems to refer to at least one case where around 80 parts were fairly distinct. It also confirms that across systems, it's unusual for more than 6 alters to take major roles in daily life except when things are stirred up by therapy. It also acknowledges, on the flip side, that systems with as few as two or three parts are possible and that the median and average numbers are somewhere around 12 to 16." - please visit did-research.org as they are a fantastic source for all knowledge on the disorder.
