Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, learning and nature. The goddess Saraswati is often depicted as a beautiful woman dressed in pure white often seated on a white lotus, which symbolizes light, knowledge and truth. The book she holds symbolizes the Vedas representing the universal, divine, eternal and true knowledge as well as all forms of learning. The most famous feature on goddess Saraswati is a musical instrument called a Veena, it represents all creative arts and sciences, and her holding it symbolizes expressing knowledge that creates harmony.
Hinduism includes worship of a Deity in many ways. Some of the ways are as follows
Mantrochar (A statement or slogan repeated frequently).
Dhoon (A Small Prayer sang repeatedly).
Prayar (Single time sang Prayer).
Chalisa (forty verse prayer).
Dhyan (Meditation).
Chalisa verses include praise of the deity and the devotee pleads for inspiration and self improvement. The acts and deeds of deities are recalled in these verses to aid the devotee to meditate on righteous and noble qualities. This is the meaning of ’Chalisa’ denoting 40 verses of prayer.The most famous exponent of this is the Hanuman Chalisa.
Mr. Hariharan has chosen this subject,as it is important for more people to be aware of goddess Saraswati and what she stands for and represents.
