Melanie Russell is the co-founder of Outside In Garden Rooms (‪@outsideingardenrooms6158‬ , https://www.outsideingardenrooms.co.uk/), who design and build timber garden rooms in Central Scotland. Spotting an opportunity for contemporary garden rooms in 2017 when refurbishing her house, Melanie left her digital agency business and set out to research and develop the new venture.

Having won two years in a row at the Scotland FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards – Start-up of the Year and Family Business of the Year – Melanie knows how valuable getting involved in business awards can be. “There’s no question it brings kudos to our business. When we won an FSB Award, an uncle of mine did say, ‘Wow, you’ve won an FSB Award, you are serious at this,’ so it clearly does hold weight,” says Melanie.
