For a lot of people, becoming a youtuber is a dream job. Getting to play video games for a living? Who wouldn't want that? But very few people ever get to make it a career. Over the past year, I've been lucky enough to reach a position where youtube has become my job, and now that I've been doing it for a year, I figured this would be a great time to recap my first year of progress as a youtuber. In just a full year, My videos have gone from the absolute bottom of the barrel to reaching view counts as high as 400,000 so its easy to say my first year of youtube has been an absolute roller coaster.

I started out making videos on retro games such as crash team racing and punch out however a year ago my editing skills were pathetic and thus the videos suffered many common issues beginner youtubers tend to have.

In this video Dagger outlines both the flaws of his earlier videos and the easiest ways to avoid these problems for yourself, From unbalanced audio levels, to poor mic quality there's a lot to learn from in Dagger's first year of videos.

However even through these issues, Dagger managed to find success early on with his video titled “The world of Awful horror games” which reached over thirty thousand views. And persistent to reach even higher number he continued to make progress with each video improving his skills.

However from here he learned that one big video doesn't guarantee you any more, and Dagger talks in depth about how frustrating Youtube can be when all of your videos flop, especially after seeing what it's like to succeed.

But after months of struggling Dagger finally made enough progress to try to make a video essay with his largest video to date “ Why gaming doesn't feel the same anymore” his best performing video in his first year of youtube. After failing again and again, finally breaking out with a massive video, Dagger was faced with a massive decision to make. Would he continue with his old style? Or perhaps keep making the video essays which netted him 400,000 views

Instead of choosing between them, Dagger decided to attempt to hybridize the two formats resulting in “Is balance healthy for video games” his only removed video in his first year of youtube. Dagger openly talks about the failures of this video and the problems with trying to combine two completely different styles.

However after repeated failures Dagger finally broke through with yet another huge video “I played the worst Wii games ever made”. This video symbolized a return to form with all the added knowledge from videos prior, all of Daggers progress has lead to this one video. And thankfully for him it resulted in yet another video with above 6 figures.

Then After all that, Dagger gives away his secrets to his video making process, detailing everything he learned in his first year as a youtuber.
