Armoured Personnel Carriers in Northern Ireland (PSNI Land Rovers)

Heavily armoured police Land Rovers responding, patrolling and preparing for events in Belfast, one of the most dangerous areas in the world to be a police officer.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has hundreds of Tangi, Pangolin and Penman Land Rover Armoured Personnel Carriers to protect police officers from the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

These are now primarily used for Crowd Control such as during protests and riots where the threat of being bombed or shot is greater than in other areas of the UK.

They are also used to protect police officers from ambush while patrolling in areas that are home to para-military groups, or dealing with terrorism.

For these reasons all police officers in Northern Ireland are armed and carry firearms. Specialist units such as the Tactical Support Group (TSG) assist regular officers by providing manpower, riot control and counter-terrorism.
