Some typical online gameplay from the recently released TF2 Classic Mod, running at maximum settings on the 2Fort map. Stuttering and general framerate issues in certain areas appear to be related to the netcode - I'm in Australia and could only find US servers that were populated, and ~180ms is the lowest ping server I could find. Unfortunately, at this ping (similar to dialup-up), my already-woeful skills, combined with both ping lag and packet loss, result in some pretty low-skill gameplay at best :)

For many years, people have been complaining that Valve's once-popular Team Fortress 2 cartoon-style online fragfest had become totally unrecognisable - and they were/are right. I used to enjoy playing TF2 often (as a casual player). My Steam TF2 stats show that I put over 1202 hours into the game! However, the bulk of that was between 2007 and 2010, which are the game's "golden years". This classic era was before Valve decided to monetize the game by making it Free to Play and riddling it with thousands of absurd weapons, clothing and items aimed at getting cash off gamers.

This mod is definitely very close to what I remember during 2007-2010, and is great fun once you get into it. The major problem for me is it doesn't seem popular enough to have sufficient local servers, and given the netcode can't handle higher (100+) pings very well, it can result in some frustration. But it's definitely worth the download, so try it for yourself!
