Despite growing up in a two-parent home, Dawkins admitted to being a troublemaker in school and having to attend a military prep school after not being heavily recruited out of high school. Eventually, the left tackle managed to play Division 1 football at Temple University but suffered a setback when he was arrested following an altercation at a club. After a successful tenure at Temple and a positive showing at the NFL Combine, Dawkins was drafted by the Bills in the second round.
