SIMPLE 5 STEP Circle Garden Project ANYONE Can Do

This is the first step on an adventure by Anjali and friends working with me to create #communitygardens in #Pondicherry.

I was asked to come and do a circle garden module as a precursor to, I think, a larger social project . And we've started at #OVOID (Design Firm In Pondicherry , India)) .

It's basically what we did here in two days that’s simple for everyone to do.
STEP 1 We dug about a two and a half meter diameter circle with a trench around the circle.
STEP 2 we’ve put in a lot of sticks and then we put in leaves.

So the returning of the sticks and the leaves. I would say that's an act of devotion to the Earth, which is very much #bhūmīdevī , no?

Every culture recognizes the #EarthAsADivinity . So returning those sticks and those leaves, that will decompose in the trench and become a healthy soil. So we facilitate this, the life in the soil, which is the fertility.

Then what we did is we planted.

STEP 3 So normally in the middle, we put a fruit tree. A fruit tree is the #longdurationplantaroundthegarden .

STEP 4 Then we put in #bananas. We put in #drumstick. We put in #papayas. We put in #sundakkai or the wild brinjal or in English It's called #turkeyberries . We put in some #tapioca. But you could also put in #turmeric and #pineapple and, you know, a few other things. Those plants, all about 10 months to a year. So they're your #mediumdurationplantsaroundthegarden . They're the sort of intermediary infrastructure of the garden.

STEP 5 And then we've started putting in #bottlegourds, #eggplant brinjal and #Pumpkin , these are all the sort of plants , and lady’s finger. These are all like the #shortdurationplantsaroundthegarden . We put in lots of #spinaches . There’s #socialvalue in this garden , in that it's so #easy to do.

It goes to show the #simplicity of this module. Let's find every public place in #Pondy (Pondicherry/Puducherry). Let's start making these circle gardens. Let’s #make it happen.
