Bocote Longbow Build

I embarked on the journey of crafting a traditional longbow from 'scratch'. Beginning with the construction of essential tools: a bow jig, a heat box, and a tillering stick. Despite being labeled a 'weekend project,' it stretched across two months, with hours devoted after work and weekends until its completion.

This endeavor marked the beginning of my adventure into bow-making, a learning process riddled with many mistakes and invaluable lessons. Nevertheless, the journey culminated with the creation of a functional longbow, leaving me ultimately satisfied with the outcome. With one bow under my belt, I eagerly anticipate crafting several more in the future.

I sourced my materials, including the Lamination Kit, from https://binghamprojects.com/. The handle section, made from exquisite Bocote wood (procured locally). The bow laminations featured Bocote parallels and taper, with a core of Action Bamboo, all bonded together using clear fiberglass and EA40 (Smooth-On) Epoxy. Each step of this project deepened my understanding of the craft, paving the way for future bow-making endeavors."
