Typhoon Kalmaegi struck central Vietnam late Thursday, hammering the coastal city of Quy Nhon and neighboring provinces with winds reaching 149 kilometers per hour. The storm uprooted trees, tore off rooftops, and snapped powerlines, plunging thousands into darkness. Streets turned into brown rivers, and cars were swept aside by the surge.

Drone footage from Viory’s field team captures the aftermath — flattened supermarket roofs, broken poles, and workers in orange vests clearing tangled debris from flooded roads. Local residents watched in disbelief. “The roof was gone,” said one man. “Everything inside flooded. Just look at it.”

Authorities confirmed five fatalities — three in Dak Lak and two in Gia Lai — while three others remain missing in Quang Ngai province. Kalmaegi, which had earlier devastated the Philippines killing over 180 people, weakened after landfall but carved scars across Vietnam’s coast.

Now, amid the silence after the storm, people sweep, repair, and rebuild. Power crews reconnect the grid; volunteers distribute food and blankets. Quy Nhon stands again — wounded, weary, but unbroken. In the stillness that follows destruction, the only sound left is the will to begin.
