Ingredients:

Rolled Oats - 1 Cup
Medium Poha/Avalakki/Flattened Rice - 1 Cup
Oil - 2 Tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Red Chilli - 1
Groundnuts - 2 Tbsp
Green Chilli - 1
Garlic cloves - 4-5
Sliced Dry Coconut - 6-8 pieces
Curry Leaves - 8-10
Roasted Bengal Gram - 1 & 1/2 Tbsp
Asafoetida/Hing - 2-3 Pinches
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 3/4 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp
Roasted Bengal Gram Powder - 1 tsp
Powdered Sugar - 1/4 tsp

Method:

1. Take 1 cup of Rolled Oats and 1 cup of Medium Poha/Avalakki/Flattened Rice.

2. Add 1 cup of rolled Oats to a kadai. Roast the Oats on low to medium flame. While roasting, the Oats look slightly whitish. They will not turn dark in colour. Also, they will not turn crisp. Roast for 6-8 minutes. The Oats should break if you press the roasted Oats with your fingers. Transfer the roasted Oats to a plate and allow them to cool.

2. Add 1 cup of Medium Poha to the same kadai. Roast the Poha on a low to medium flame. The Poha/Flattened Rice has to turn crisp. The colour of Poha should not change. The measurement is 1 cup of Oats to 1 cup of Poha/Avalakki. You can add less Poha and more Oats if you prefer. If you press the roasted Poha with your finger, it should break. Once roasted, transfer the Poha to the same plate and allow it to cool.

3. To the same kadai, add 2 Tbsp of Oil. Once the Oil is hot, add 1 tsp of Mustard Seeds and 1 tsp of Cumin Seeds. Once these two ingredients are roasted, add 1 broken Red Chilli. Once the Red Chilli is roasted, add 2 Tbsp of Groundnuts and roast for a minute. After roasting the Groundnuts until they start to break, add one slit Green Chilli. Also, add finely chopped 4-5 Garlic cloves.

4. Once these are mixed and roasted, add 6-8 sliced pieces of Dry Coconut and roast them. Add 8-10 Curry Leaves and fry them. Add 1 & 1/2 Tbsp of Roasted Bengal Gram. Roast all these ingredients for a minute. Add 2-3 pinches of Asafoetida/Hing and mix well. Switch off the flame once the Dry Coconut turns golden in colour.

5. Add 1/4 tsp of Turmeric Powder, 3/4 tsp of spicy Red Chilli Powder and 1 tsp of Salt and mix well. Now add the roasted Oats and Poha/Avalakki and mix well. Once all the ingredients are mixed, switch on the stove.

6. Add 1 tsp of Roasted Bengal Gram Powder and 1/4 tsp of Powdered Sugar. Adding these two ingredients is optional. Mix everything well.

Once cooled completely, transfer to an airtight container. You can store up to 15 days.
