Описание к видео The Really Wild Show (9/2/94) - FULL EPISODE

Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and Howie Watkins travel across several different countries to explore the local wildlife and show us some unexpected sights from the animal kingdom. I believe this episode was originally broadcast on Wednesday, 9th February, 1994.

In South Africa, some youngsters are taught the art of tracking, and we're shown lions, monkeys, impalas, storks, giraffes, warthogs, and one decidedly miffed ostrich. Did you know that ostriches can disembowel a man with a single kick? If Michaela says so, I believe her. Then Chris is in Sweden to meet a couple of extremely shy but gorgeous Eurasian lynxes, before returning home to get out his rhododendron leaf hoppers, which have a name that sounds so unbelievably made up but they are apparently real. The audience get to hold a Burmese python between them, all before Howie goes to Carew Castle in Wales to look and listen out for bats. There's some interesting stuff about echolocation in there.

I'd completely forgotten about the It's-a-Knockout-meets-Fun-House games they'd play in the middle, but I like how it's built around something to do with the strange habits of animals (in this case, the sand grouse). All good, wholesome, educational entertainment which still holds up perfectly well today.

Grateful thanks to Ben for providing this recording - please take the time to check out    / benriggers   when you get the chance.
