The AV-8S Matador remains an icon of military aviation in the Spanish Navy, and our 1/48 scale kit can also be assembled and painted as the U.S. Marines AV-8A or as an R.A.F. GR.1 or GR.3 Harrier. In today’s new video, we take a deep dive into the kit—showing everything from the instructions to the sprues and decals. Join us as we explore this highly accurate scale replica of a dynamic and innovative aircraft.

We begin with the instructions, which include a historical overview and an interview with Captain Jorge Flethes, the last chief of the 8th Squadron at Rota Naval Air Base, Cádiz. The instructions also feature five pages of reference photos, courtesy of Captain Flethes. They are easy to follow, with specific parts for the Spanish, American, and British variants clearly indicated. You'll also find painting tips, a guide for decal placement, and color guides for each variant.

Next, we show the decals themselves, printed by Cartograf. These are top-quality, with vivid and accurate colors. Then we move on to the photo-etched parts, which add excellent detail. Finally, we showcase the incredibly detailed and accurate plastic sprues, highlighting some of the available options such as vertical stabilizers, nose configurations, and armaments. We also examine the clear parts, which are essential to the final build. To wrap things up, we take a look at the ATOM set specifically designed for this iconic aircraft.
