This story beautifully conveys a profound and elegant message about the forms of God, both manifest and unmanifest. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's answer to this question is simple yet profound, using the example of water and ice.

He explained that God can be both manifest (sākār) and unmanifest (nirākār). To illustrate this, he used the example of water and ice. Water does not have a definite shape; it is formless. However, when the same water is placed in a container and frozen, it takes the shape of that container and becomes ice.

In its liquid state, water is formless (nirākār), but when it becomes ice, it takes a form (sākār). Similarly, God can be formless and also manifest in a form.

This concept is also described in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad:

"द्वे वाव ब्रह्मणो रूपे मूर्तं चैवामूर्तं च"

This means that God manifests in two forms: the formless 'Brahman' and the manifest 'Bhagavan'.

Thus, this story teaches us that it is not possible to confine God to just one form. He exists in both manifest and unmanifest forms, and devotees can experience Him in both ways.
