El Nino is a Spanish word which means 'The Little Boy'. The occasional climatic change and development of warm ocean surface waters along the coast of Peru and Ecuador are called El Nino effect.

La Nina is a Spanish word which means the Little Girl' or simply 'a cold event'. In La Nina, the cold water of the Eastern Pacific Ocean gets colder than normal, which results in the accumulation of cold water in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean.

In this session you will learn about the following
1. El Nino & La Nina (00:00)
2. El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) (1:22)
3. ENSO - Neutral (3:28)
4. Walker circulation (07:16)
5. La - Nina (11:08)
6. El - Nino (16:35)
7. Impact on Indian Monsoon (21:52)

Some major aspects of this topic are discussed in this session, such as the La Nina effect, El Ninos, El Nino phenomenon, and much more.

The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a recurring climate pattern involving changes in the temperature of waters in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.

The occasional climatic change and development of warm ocean surface waters along the coast of Peru and Ecuador are called the El Nino effect.

In La Nina, the cold water of the Eastern Pacific Ocean gets colder than normal, which results in the accumulation of cold water in the central and eastern Pacific oceans.

Since 1950, 10 of India's 13 droughts have occurred during El Nino years, with one occurring during a La Nina year. This is because, in general, El Nino means less rain in India than usual. Because Indian agriculture is heavily reliant on the monsoons, less rainfall during the monsoons generally translates to lower-than-average crop yields.

At the end of the session, some important previous year's questions are discussed to boost the aspirants' preparation for their upcoming IAS Exam.
