Long ago before a castle was ever built on the great crag of Carrigogunnell legend tells us a powerful enchantress lived on these grounds. Some even called her a hag or a witch. She was a creature of the old ways she was deeply connected to the land and the spirits of those who had long past. The people who lived near by were terrified of her. The believed she could command the winds and the shadows and creatures of the night were her allies, bound by a dark agreement. It is said Every night she would light a powerful candle that would
cast a strange light over the Limerick plains. It was believed that a one were even to catch the faintest hint of the light the beholder’s soul would be doomed for all eternity. Each night the light would fall on the plains until one night a man Patrick came to the land. Patrick was know for his miracles and missionary work. He brought a new belief system with him, Christianity. He had banished snakes and even raised people from the dead. Surely the old had on the rock would be no match for him. It is said the woman on the great rock of Carrigogunnell became afraid. Of what Patrick represented, that he might take away the old ways and traditions. She used her magic to thwart his efforts. She conjured storms to thwart his preaching and cast illusions so that those who were listening to Patrick’s words might be confused. But Patrick was not deterred. Up the great rock he went to confront the witch. Face to face they stood. Some say he intended to convert the woman. He took his great staff and lifted it high in the air and with a prayer he slammed it in to the rock. No more was heard of the had and the spectral light she cast over Limerick ceased. The rock she lived on? Well. The Castle bears the name Carrigogunnel meaning Candle rock. And the man. He became known as Saint Patrick, patron saint of Ireland.

Evelyn Edwards is a successful actress and history presenter. She has appeared on such shows as National Geographic’s Hydrogen vs. Hindenburg, Bosch, Criminal Minds, Castle, The Mentalist, Parenthood, The Thundermans, The Kicks, Marry Me, Outsourced, the Academy Award winning film Her, Mimi, and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Evelyn began her career in opera. She has performed with some of the opera industry’s leading conductors and singers including: Placido Domingo, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Eva Marton, Vladimir Chernov, Goesta Winburg, and others.
She has had the privilege of working with such famed directors as Oscar winner Maximilian Schell, Julie Taymor, Gian-Carlo Del Monaco, and Lotfi Mansuri during her tenure with Los Angeles Opera. Ms. Edwards made her professional singing debut at the age of 13, operatic debut at 19, and national television commercial debut at six months.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master’s degree from UCLA and a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music. She and her husband Chris love exploring the world and sharing their passion and love of history, castles, and photography together.
