1. Bites:

Small, red, itchy welts on your skin, often in a line or cluster, are one of the most common signs of a bed bug infestation. These bites usually appear after you’ve slept, and they’re often more noticeable in the morning. Bed bugs prefer to bite areas of exposed skin, like your arms, face, or neck.


2. Blood Stains:

4. Eggs and Shed Skins:

Bed bug eggs are tiny and white, making them difficult to see. However, you might notice them in clusters or in areas where bed bugs typically hide. Also, as bed bugs grow, they shed their skins, leaving behind exoskeletons that may be found in hiding spots.




Preventing Bed Bugs in Winter

1. Inspect Secondhand Items:

When buying secondhand furniture or clothing, inspect these items carefully before bringing them into your home. Look for signs of bed bugs or their eggs, especially in seams, cracks, and hidden corners. If you’re unsure, it’s safer not to bring the item inside.


2. Wash Bedding Frequently:

Wash and dry your bedding, including sheets, blankets, and pillowcases, on the hottest setting possible. Bed bugs are sensitive to heat, so the hot water and high-temperature dryer cycle can kill any bed bugs or eggs that may be hiding.


3. Use Mattress Encasements:

Invest in bed bug-proof mattress and box spring encasements. These special covers trap any bed bugs inside and prevent new ones from entering. Ensure the encasement fits tightly around your mattress and box spring to keep bugs out.


4. Monitor During the Holidays:

The holiday season often means more travel and guests in your home. If you’ve recently traveled or had visitors, take extra precautions by checking your home for signs of bed bugs. Travel is one of the most common ways these pests are introduced into homes.
