EPIC Buttercream Space, Planets & Moon Birthday Cake! | How to Cake It

This week's cake had to be both gorgeous and delicious (oreo buttercream anyone?), as it was for a very special someone - Connie's nephew Cristian who is turned 1 years old! To celebrate Cristian's "1st trip around the sun", the birthday party was space themed, so I decided to make a space cake that revolves ; ) around planets. Cristian's mom provided me with the party's color palettes (lots of blues) and a request for a buttercream exterior and then left the rest of the vision and creative to me. yay! I chose to make 2 tiers of double barrelled sky-blue buttercream covered cake, topped with a 1/2 tier fondant moon, adorned with hand painted planets, sprinkle stars and topped with handmade rocket and astronaut candles from the small and talented team at Southlake gifts. Epic!

If this feels too advanced or like too much cake for you (maybe it's a smaller party?) I strongly recommend making the moon cake on it's own! Imagine how adorable it would be? and it is quite simple to make!
