They walked past the lake,
Where they ran out of bait
Over the small bridge -
Where a toad does live
Down the path, the travelers' son
Thisrty, imagining Embers past -
Asked for a sip of water
From his father's flask -
"I'm sorry, son, I'm out at last,"
The old traveler smiled and laughed
"We will have to go refill our glass."
So they continued down the path.
The old traveler enjoying the breeze
When a drizzle of rain touched the leaves
A drop landed his sons face with ease
"We better hurry before it rains,"
The old traveler started to say
The little boy smiled, "It will be okay,
I'll drink it all away," sticking his tongue out
He tried to catch the falling rains array -
When they reached Potions Of Ale,
To refill the flask that drizzling day
The place wasn't bright nor dark,
Jill at the counter with a tear in her heart.
She said hello to the little boy
In a sad, quiet tone, thinking of Ale
Who had died in his bed at home
A day after Bells birthday all alone
"Good day for fishing,"
The old traveler said
Jill didn't smile -
Just nodded her head
"What can I get you,"
Jill said with a whine
"A Potion Of Ale,"
The travler said in kind -
The little boy said,
"Water is fine,"
But Jill didn't move
Just stood still
Her tears poured
Against her will -
The little boy didn't say much
Just went and gave Jill a hug
Jill broke down in her place
Fell to her knees crying away
"My father, it wasn't his time,"
She went on to say -
The old traveler nodded away -
"Two years extra, I'd say,
His sickness was bound -
To catch him one day,"
He walked behind the bar
Poured Jill half a glass
His self his own to grasp
"To Ale, his Potions, and family pasted"
The travler son smiled
"And getting water at last!"
Toasted with his father and Jill
The drizzle outside, a thunderous feel
Jill drank that potion down -
The traveler a sip -
Before setting his glass down
The boy drank nothing -
Just put the flask away
Gave Jill another hug -
"It willl be okay,
I'll play with Bell one day,"
Jill finally smiled, tears fading away
His father pushed a button,
The till opened with ease,
He paid his tab, thanked Jill
Set off to leave -
His son beside him,
Thinking of grilled cheese
"I'll bring you some eggs,"
He said before stepping out the stead.
Taking his father hand,
He moved ahead -
Down the path,
Up a hill -
Pass the tobacco field,
He turned to the left,
Down another small hill
To rest his head -
When they reached home
The old traveler sat -
Out on the porch at that
Lighting a pipe, smiled and laughed
He looked up at the mountain
Where his kettle sat -
Thinking of the future and past
"Oh please, oh please, someone help me"
