Jason here: I cannot express the sadness I feel at the passing of my mom. Tomorrow I will be celebrating her life with family and friends at her funeral, but I can’t help but feel two giant emotions tugging at my heart.

I know she is in a better place. That she is free. Free from this world of suffering. Free from her pain and struggle. I imagine her walking arm-in-arm with my dad right now, soaking in the quiet bliss.

But at the same time I feel a great sadness and emptiness with her passing. I mourn a lot of the same things that I mourned when my dad moved on in 2016 - that she won’t get to see my kids grow up, and she won’t be able to tell them that she’s proud of them, that they will slowly start to forget what it was like to play with her and sit in her lap and read with her. I’m sad that I’m not going to get to call her up any day and tell her big news. Or even that I’m never going to get that random call about how to fix her TV (hit input on the remote, mom!)

I never expected to be a man of 37 years with both of my parents gone. When you’re a kid you think your parents will live forever, but life has a funny way of turning everything on its head sometimes.

I’ve missed my dad every day since he passed. To now be missing my mom only doubles that pain. But I have a hope that I’ll get to see them again one day. As my dad, Mike Morrow, put it: “There is another day coming, and this world is not all there is to it...there is another world.”
