It's my 100th game upload for Tero's Classic Gaming! It's been a long haul, full of classic games, hidden gems, and forgotten greats. There's been ups and downs, but by far the most popular videos of the ones I've done have been for the Puzzle games, yet among the Puzzle genre I still haven't done the two giants, Tetris and Puyo Puyo. I was always kind of planning to do Puyo Puyo Tsuu for my 100th upload, but then this game came out and it lets me do both at once, so I knew I had to choose this one.

As noted above, Puyo Puyo Tetris is a game that combines Puyo Puyo and Tetris in a variety of ways. You can play Puyo Puyo, Tetris, Puyo Puyo vs Tetris, both games at the same time, or a crazy fusion of the mechanics of both games. There's so much variety in this game that just playing through one mode wouldn't even begin to cover it, so I'm just going to play a little of each mode. Oh, and at the end there's a little treat because I realized we hadn't seen two of the coolest characters yet.

As for the way the game actually plays, it's very faithful to the original games, and playing Puyo Puyo vs Tetris is surprisingly balanced despite how vastly different their mechanics are. If you're a North American Puyo Puyo fan, this game is a no-brainer, because it lets you play against Tetris players rather than having to struggle to find someone else who knows what Puyo Puyo is. If you actually have people who know how to play both, I feel that the Swap mode (Where you alternate between Puyo and Tetris) is actually the best one, there's a lot of interesting dynamics at play there. Unfortunately, Puyotet mode (the one that mixes both games) is basically just unbalanced nonsense, like all Puyo modes that involve Skill Chaining.

Oh, and for anyone wondering, this video was recorded in SD because I don't have an HD capture card. I have to say, PS3's composite video encoder is truly awful. I know it wasn't their top priority but the quality is far worse than many systems that are 15 years old now.

"Retsu...!"
"...Puyo!"
"...Tetrisu!"
"Shoubu!"
