Incredible pictures of Aberdeen FC's Pittodrie Stadium through the ages

Pittodrie Stadium has been one of Aberdeen’s most recognisable structures for decades.

But the ground has undergone many changes over the years, from its days hosting the current Aberdeen FC’s predecessors to becoming one of Britain’s first all-seater stadia.

Placed just 550 yards from the North Sea, few football grounds lie closer to the coast.

Nowadays, it can hold nearly 21,000 people and has been used for rugby fixtures as well as Scotland international matches and concerts, but the story of Pittodrie as a sporting venue dates back to the 19th century.
