Power steering-related issues.
This is one of the most critical issues with Buick LaCrosse. The model’s EPS system, especially the 2017 make, may not have been properly sealed, resulting in water entering and corroding the system’s connectors. This could easily result in power steering loss, leading to magnified manual steering effort and crash risk. GM recalled the affected Buick LaCrosse models to inspect and correct the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) seals free of charge.

Complaints of a clunking noise from the upper intermediate steering shaft and leaking power steering hoses are also common. The latter would drop the necessary hydraulic pressure for the proper functioning of the EPS system. Replacing the hose and refilling hydraulic fluid should fix the issue.

Powertrain and transmission malfunctions.
Power train and transmission malfunctions are other top mechanical faults to keep an eye for in Buick LaCrosse models. Affected Buick LaCrosse vehicles, specifically the 2018 and 2019 year models, were believed to have missed bolts on the start/stop accumulator endcap. Missing bolts on this endcap could result in transmission oil leakage, which could lead to loss of propulsion or risk of fire if an ignition source is present.

The transmission shift cable adjuster is another cause of power train and transmission malfunctions in Buick LaCrosse vehicles, especially in the 2014 model year. This cable adjuster in affected models can easily disengage from the transmission shift lever. If this happens, shifting gear positions may be impossible, and the indicated shift position may also not represent the engaged gear.

The manufacturer issued a recall mandating dealers to inspect and replace the affected vehicles' transmission shift cable adjusters.
