J-K: SIA raids underway in South Kashmir over Sanjay Sharma killing

Anti-terror raids are underway at various locations of South Kashmir at Qaimoh Kulgam, Heff Shopian and Anantnag town.
The raids were conducted by the State Investigation Agency in connection with the murder of Sanjay Sharma, a bank ATM guard, the agency said. Further details are awaited.

Also, on June 14, the investigation agency conducted a raid at multiple locations in South Kashmir.

Earlier in February, terrorists fired upon Sanjay Sharma, a bank ATM guard, while he was on way his way to a local market, the Kashmir police said. Though he was shifted to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

“Terrorists fired upon a member of a minority community when he was going towards a market along with his wife,” DIG Rayees Mohammad Bhat had said at the time of the incident. “We are searching for the terrorist and we will neutralise them as early as possible,” he added.

“Terrorists fired upon one civilian from minority namely Sanjay Sharma S/O Kashinath Sharma R/O Achan Pulwama while on way to local market. He was shifted to hospital however, he succumbed to injuries,” the Kashmir Zone Police had said.
Meanwhile, J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the terror attack on Sanjay Sharma. He said that the administration will stand strong with the bereaved family.

Raids across Kashmir districts over crowdfunding by suspected terror sources

Raids by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) were underway in various districts of Kashmir, in connection with crowdfunding by suspected terror sources. An FIR in the case has already been registered.

The State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted raids across several districts in central and south Kashmir on Saturday. According to the information received by India Today, the raids were underway in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Srinagar. They were in connection with investigations into crowdfunding by suspected terror sources.

Sources told India Today that the officials were conducting raids with the assistance of the local police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The officials had reached the residence of Maulavi Sarjan Barkati in South Kashmir, notorious for inciting violence through hate speech, in 2016.

Locally known as "Pied Piper", Barkati used to openly invite and instigate the youth to take to violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

A case related to crowdfunding was registered by the SIA against Barkati and others. The FIR states he raised huge funds, amounting to more than Rs 1.5 crore, by making emotional appeals to the general public.

The FIR also mentions Barkati laundered money coming from unknown sources, suspectedly via terror outfits.

So far, the SIA has identified 10 suspects in the initial investigation.

Preliminary investigations into the case revealed Barkati diverted a substantial part of the funds for his personal benefit and purchased a piece of land worth Rs 45 lakh in Anantnag town, in the name of his wife. He further sold the property for Rs 72 lakh.

Barkati also owns a house he built using public money, besides owning a piece of land to set up a madrassa.
