Practice this beginner-friendly pranayama breathing technique to calm the mind and body and drift into a deeper state of relaxation.

Yogic breathing exercises create a bridge between our conscious mind and the subconscious functioning of the autonomic nervous system. Niyantrit Shwas or Controlled Breathing is a particular type of breathing technique that finds its roots in pranayama's ancient practice. It involves the control of our breathing rhythm in 3 levels.

So how do we do it?

👉 Level 1
1. The first step is to focus on your breathing and gently allow it to return to a rhythmic pattern.
2. Next, take a few deep breaths, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly.
3. After 3 or 4 rounds, start breathing in a pattern of 4-4-8.
4. Inhale through your nose for 4 counts, hold your breath for 4 counts, and exhale slowly to a count of 8.
5. Repeat this 4 or 5 times, and slowly notice how you start feeling.
