Some more tips:
Always let people know where you are (write your family a schedule with addresses and phone numbers)

Don’t just visit big cities. Especially on the western side of Europe the small villages are nicer than the big cities.

ALWAYS make sure you have water and emergency food with you! You’re gonna have situations where you’ll have to wait for a bus or train for hours, so make sure you won’t starve.

Explore crowded places in early in the morning!

Don’t wear jewelry and keep your hands in your pockets to protect your valuables.
