happier than ever by billie eilish is like a tango of emotions. for me it’s a roller coaster of feeling beyond betrayed, alone, embarrassed (at someone who keeps urging that they would change their habits, which at the end they never end up doing, and just end up hurting you more, no matter the countless times they said they would change), impatient (bc the person isn’t changing, feeling like a discarded toy. Thrown onto the road in the middle of a thunder storm. Feeling useless. Feeling disposed. It’s not only that it’s being mad at someone who almost ruined your whole life, made you feel like complete shit, was complicity, openly praying on your downfall and happily laughing at every mistake you made to become who u are today. It’s about a boyfriend, who makes you hate yourself, makes you lose apart of your identity, make you sacrifice so much. You put in so much care, but they don’t reciprocate. And even with all the niceness, even after you made them “your everything”, they think your just stupid, annoying, weird, cringy and probably would trade you in for a 4 piece chicken McNuggets from McDonald’s. So now ur tired of his ass. So even if they were your source of happiness before, it becomes evident that they are no longer healthy and it’s time to cute the cord with them. This song also feels like pent up anger being released and I like it a lot.
