WOMEN WHO SING TO ME Vol. 13

Harfenistka, pianistka, zpěvačka a skladatelka ze Severní Kalifornie Joanna Newsom, skřítek z lesů, princezna z bájného města YS. Čarodějka, co některé neúprosně vtáhne do svých impresionistických veršů, jiné donutí zacpat si uši před jejím dětským a někdy skřípavým hláskem. A taky sebevědomá žena, která například odmítá poskytnout svá alba Spotify. Už si nepatmatuju, jak se stalo, že jsem ji začala poslouchat. Nejradši mám její debutové album Milk Eyed Mender (2004), z nějž je i Peach, Plum, Pear. Na následujícím YS opustila formu jednodušších písniček a pustila se do delších kompozic zaranžovaných pro orchestr. To jsem taky poslouchávala dost ráda.
"Each Peach Plum Pear" je dětská kniha říkadel, na niž Joanna v názvu odkazuje. Na albu je natočená na harpsichord, ale viděla jsem i live záznam, kde ji hraje na harfu. Se svou dětskou nevinností rýmuje verše o rozchodu, možná spíš vztahu, co se ani nenaplnil. Je to asi jen interpretace, co jsem našla někde na fórech, ale líbila se mi - že "pear" může být zaměněno za "pair" - a na konci písně už pair chybí...
Vyjeli jsme si tentokrát se Štěpánem Janouškem, který mi píseň opět natočil a smíchal, a moc mu za to děkuju, k řece a timing okolností byl lepší než podle jízdního řádu. Posuďte sami :-)

Harpist, pianist, singer and songwriter from Northern California Joanna Newsom, a forest elf, a princess from the legendary city of YS. A witch, who draws some people into her impressionist verses, forces others with her child's and sometimes squeaky voice to plug their ears. And also a confident woman who, for example, refused to put her albums on Spotify. I don't remember how it happened that I started listening to her. Her debut album "Milk Eyed Mender" (2004) is my favourite, including the song "Peach, Plum, Pear". For the next album "YS", she leaves the form of simpler songs and embarks on longer compositions arranged for the orchestra. I used to listen to that album a lot too in my twenties.
"Each Peach Plum Pear" is a children's book of rhymes, to which Joanna refers in the title. It's recorded on harpsichord on the album, but I saw a live recording of her playing the harp. With her childhood innocence, Joanna rhymes verses about separation, perhaps more of a relationship that has not even come true. It's probably just an interpretation which I found somewhere on the internet, but I liked it - that "pear" can be mistaken for "pair" - and at the end of the song there is no couple anymore ...
This time we went with Štěpán, who recorded and mixed the song for me again, and I thank him very much for that, to the river and the timing of the circumstances was better than according to the timetable. Check it out yourself :-)
