Vientiane or Viengchan is a capital city of Laos, also the largest city in Laos with over 900,000 population.
In downtown center where the morning market is where you can get to pretty much everywhere in the city and to the suburb by the shuttle busses. The old town area near the Mekong river is where most of the hotels, guesthouses and bars are located. In the evening it has more sign of lives and activities going on such as walking street start from 5pm-10pm.
In the old town area there are a few beautiful historical temples like Wat Ong Teu and Wat Inpeng as well as some beautiful colonial buildings

There are quite a few places to discover in this capital such as temples like Wat Thad Luang, Wat Sisaket, Ho Pha Keo and many others.
The Lao National Museum is also recommended when you're in Vientiane.
And of course this main Landmark called "Patuxay Monument" standing right in the center of the city is a place you should considered visit when in Vientiane. This War Monument built between 1957 and 1968, was dedicated to those who fought in the struggle for independence from France.
Laos was french colonial for 60 years from 1893-1953.
This concrete monument with a wide avenue leading to it similar in style to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France.

Hi folks, NatNomad here. An ex-Buddhist monk from Laos with a big dream of seeing the world. Throughout my time for over 10 years being a monk I kept asking myself one question "What life is like out there beyond the monastery?" and because of this question alone made me take a big step in 2014 when I finally say goodbye to my wonderful monastic life.
And now I'm doing what I've always wanted to do. Though I am not quite sure if I can say that I'm living my dream but you know what I'm loving my new adventure.
