Sukumar Babu sir, one of the most devoted drumset masters from Bengaluru, India who dedicated his life to teaching drums, passing on his knowledge to hundreds of students. He was a synonym for simplicity.

Babu sir adopted a certain imaginative method of writing grooves/notations. I am fortunate to learn some of these grooves and his writing method since I started learning from him way back in 1999.

Here, I have tried a few of the grooves that he taught me and I have seen him play. It would be wonderful if you all could understand these notations. These are simple, basic grooves that are like a foundation to understand the sound and aesthetics of the drumset over which a lot of improvisations can be made. Babu sir used this method to write notations until he started teaching the "Trinity College of London" syllabus from 2005.

I hope this video will be of some help to all the drumming enthusiasts.
