Mapanuepe Lake

Mapanuepe Lake has its mystical magic view. The locals also have stories like mermaids lurking in the water, a loch ness monster being caught, a kapre in the trees, and deaths due to drowning were claimed to have made by the mystical creatures.

But you just have to visit the place to see another beautiful side of nature.

A little background, the lake was created after the cataclysmic eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991. 2 barangays were submerged following the blockaged of the drainage due to Lahars. Only the steeple of the church protruding out of the water remained from one of the villages.

Mapanuepe Lake is now called the New Zealand of the Philippines because of its majestic view of the land and the freeness of the animals roaming around the area.

Be sure to get a guide from the entry point in San Marcelino so you can have a peaceful ride going to the lake. There were others who did not get a guide and went to the wrong place, or worst, got stuck in the sand.

You can also do a lot of things in the area like rent a boat, roam around the lake to see the cross protruding out of the water. You can also swim but at your own risk since there were reports of water contamination from Dizon Mines. Pitch your own tent, go fishing but be sure to bring your own gears. We rented a motorcycle to stroll around the lake and filled our eyes with the beauty of Mapanuepe Lake.

Lake Mapanuepe is located is San Marcelino, Zambales. You can reach the area from Manila in 4 hours depending on the time of your travel.
