🗂️ In 1968 near Grant Town/Fairmont, West Virginia, bow-hunter Jennings H. Frederick reported a terrifying encounter with a tall, plant-like humanoid—yellow eyes, leaf-like ears, and long syringe-tipped suction fingers. The entity allegedly spoke by telepathy, sampled Frederick’s blood, and bounded away in elastic leaps. The story didn’t hit print until Gray Barker ran it in his newsletter in 1976, and Brad Steiger amplified it in Alien Meetings (1978).

Today, the legend is back in the spotlight thanks to Fairmont’s Veggie Man Day—a festival that returned on July 12, 2025, with artists, speakers, music, and tons of cryptid merch. Is this a quirky one-off legend…or something stranger rooted in 60s UFO lore?
