Finally, The Only MTS Video You Need to Watch! Multi Terrain Select Explained. ATRAC Demo!

Описание к видео Finally, The Only MTS Video You Need to Watch! Multi Terrain Select Explained. ATRAC Demo!

Most MTS videos are just show demonstrations that do not teach a lot. This video is more. We explain exactly how to use it correctly and when not to use it.

Here are some tech notes on MTS:

• Multi-Terrain Select (MTS). It is very different than A-TRAC. A-TRAC is a tool that works best helping you accelerate from a dead stop by using brakes to stop wheel spin. MTS can do that as well but it is also a system that is designed for active driving.
• Multi-Terrain Select regulates the amount of wheel-spin by adjusting throttle performance and brake pressure. Note that I said “throttle performance” and brakes. A-TRAC only uses brake pressure. MTS uses both brake pressure and throttle.
• A good way to think about it is that A-TRAC wants to eliminate wheel spin so you can accelerate from a stop. MTS, on the other hand, will allow different amounts of wheel spin based on the conditions you are actively driving in. So, for example, in sand or mud some wheel spin can be good. When rock crawling, you want virtually no wheel spin.
• Here’s how MTS works. You can select between four terrain types: (1) Mud & Sand, (2) Loose Rock, (3) Mogul, and (4) Rock. The first setting allows the most wheel spin and as you move through them up to Rock, it allows almost no wheel spin.
• Some features of MTS work in both 4L and 4H. You can use all the MTS terrain types in 4L. In fact, Loose Rock, Mogul and Rock can only be used in 4L. They will not work in 4H. The Mud & Sand setting is the only one that can be used in 4H as well as 4L.
• You can activate MTS while driving but only at speeds below 7 mph. In fact, if you are using MTS in 4L and you exceed 7 mph, the MTS features will not activate.

We've tried to get it right in this video. If there is any incorrect information, please let us know. Cheers and have fun out there!

Ubiquitous disclaimer: We are not automotive engineers. In this video, we share our view points. It is not instructional in nature and is not intended to be relied upon. Please do your own research and drive safe!

PLEASE NOTE: If you have watched our A-TRAC video, you do not need to watch this video. This is a repeat of the A-TRAC video so people that are searching for MTS can find the content.

Please Note: Tacoma cannot operate MTSin 4H. However, 4Runner can operate MTS in 4H as explained below. The Tacoma manual states: "The Multi-terrain Select can be operated when ●The four-wheel drive control switch is in “4L” position."
So, Tacoma cannot operate MTS in 4H, not even in the Mud&Sand setting.

However, the 4Runner manual is different. It states: "Multi-terrain Select can be activated when
● Vehicle speed is approximately 7 mph (12 km/h) or less.
● MUD & SAND: The front-wheel drive control lever is in L4 or H4.
LOOSE ROCK, MOGUL and ROCK: The front-wheel drive control lever is in L4."

So, yes the 4Runner can operate MTS Mud&Sand setting in 4H.
