The incident began when deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a signaling violation and damaged lights. After the driver explained the car's condition, officers processed documents. The passenger was asked to step out, and later, officers attempted to have the driver exit the vehicle. The driver, a skinny black man in his 50s or 60s, wearing a dark hoodie and cap, initially refused to comply, creating an immediate point of contention.

In the footage, officers are heard informing the driver that they are preparing for an arrest, urging cooperation. The driver can be heard questioning their actions and asserting his non-aggression, stating, "If I n- if I wanted to hurt you or were trying to fight, it would've been a fight. I ain't put my hands on you nail time." This verbal standoff underscores the escalating tension as deputies attempt to take him into custody. Following this verbal challenge, a physical altercation ensued, during which the driver resisted, fought with officers, and reportedly attempted to grab a deputy’s taser, resulting in injuries to both deputies before he was subdued. A search of the vehicle subsequently revealed suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia under the driver's seat. He was later charged with multiple offenses.
