Don’t Make Me Count to Three, by: Ginger Hubbard

Chapter 11 - Part 5/5 - In which we are told that “good” spankings at the end of the day dont make up for all the missed ones.

Metrics for Deep Dives That Examine Specific Books/Resources:

🧐Author credentials & career
🧐Worldview & framework of book/teaching
🧐Anthropology: understanding of parent, child & family relationships
🧐Parenting goals & methods
🧐Theological assumptions & hermeneutical approach

Deep dives allow me to put a resource under the microscope for careful examination in order to understand key themes as well as how the author/teacher supported their claims. With this in mind, we can zoom back out to see how a particular resource fits into the bird’s eye view of parenting trends, adjacent Christian teaching, and the social and historical landscape.

The purpose of this work is not to say there is nothing of merit in a particular resource, (with a few exceptions) nor is it to recommend resources. The primary purpose is to identify the assumptions and underlying beliefs in popular Christian parenting teaching in order to consider how and if they align with the way of Jesus.
