The LHC ruled on Friday that all vehicles traveling on the motorways must be M-tagged by December 7th to prevent any inconvenience particularly smog.

What is M-Tag in Pakistan?

M-Tag is a prepaid Radio Frequency Identification (RFI) chip that is installed to the vehicle’s windscreen at the right corner. When any vehicle passing through moterway toll plaza, the scanner installed at the toll plaza automatically scan the passing vahicle and automatically deducts money – no need to wait in long queues to pay the toll tax.

This system is being used in different countries including Dubai.

M-Tag registration Process

There is a booth / office for issuing M-tag at Ravi or Babu Sabu Toll Plaza, from where M-tags can be obtained.

Required Documents For M-Tag

Go to the nearest Toll Plaza with your CNIC, and mobile phone number for getting M-Tag.The number plate must be on the vehicle to get the M-tag.

How to recharge the M-Tag chip?

There are now multiple ways to recharge M-tag:All main toll plazasAll interchangesMain service areas like Bhera, Kalarkahar, Nankana etcOnline payment modes like jazz cash, u paisa, easy paisa etcAnd through app “one tag one network” available play store.

The FWO has developed a smart motorway app that lets you check your balance.

It is worth mentioning here that for now M-Tag will be applicable only on Motorway M-2, but soon this facility will also be available on other Motorway Routes and Lahore Ring Road.
