Have you every heard anyone say "A Bedding Area cant possibly be to Thick"?. I know I have time and time again. But the truth is, a Whitetail Deer Bedding area, Buck or Doe, cant definitely be "To Thick" and to be honest I see this issue alot, especially on small Parcels. Why more so on Small Parcels? I believe its because land owners have less area to work with and they get caught up.in a myth that bigger is better and thicker will hold more deer. That couldn't be further from the truth folks.
Whitetails, especially Mature Whitetails do not like overlying thick bedding. These areas that are created to thick by over doing hinge cuts, and or an area that just hasn't been maintained in recent years can cause huge issues with holding Mature Deer on your land. The older a Whitetail gets the wiser and more cautious they become and with that they find themselves bedding in areas that have the correct feed requirements but also have a perfectly clear line of sight to incoming danger. If your bedding areas are to thick, these areas will serve as a weather sheild and not a internal bedding area forcing these deer to bed on the fringe of these areas. This intern makes these areas harder to hunt and get closer to when your trying to "Push the Envelope " and get closer to that daylight/early evening Movement.
