I decided long ago that I wanted to teach myself a programming language, specifically Python, to eventually become capable of developing groundwater models. I purchased a book and have finally took the initiative to learn the basics. This journey will take us through the basics, but will eventually evolve into more advanced techniques as I learn and develop skills in Python. After this book, the plan is to dig into courses and tutorials from Udemy, github, automatetheboringstuff, and kaggle. This series should end up being significantly long. I hope you can learn with me on this journey to adding Python to our toolbelt!

In this episode, we briefly cover the PEP8 guidelines (something we will review much later on as well). We also cover variables and operators. We play with these in PyCharm and we also learn how to combine operators. A variable is an item that contains a representation of another item, in a way that is easy to access and manipulate. Operators (=, +, -, *, **, //, %) are symbols that perform functions, and are used to manipulate data in different ways.
