The tale of Urashima Taro is a classic Japanese folk tale that tells the story of the homonymous fisherman. One day, while fishing, he rescues a turtle from being mistreated by children. Grateful, the turtle invites Urashima to the undersea palace of the princess Otohime, as a gesture of appreciation.

Upon entering the palace, Urashima is captivated by the wonders of the underwater world and spends what feels like a few days there. However, when he decides to return to the surface, he is given by the princess a mysterious box as a parting gift, with a warning not to open it.

Urashima returns to the surface, only to find that many years have passed, and the world he once knew has changed. Overwhelmed by despair, he opens the box, releasing a cloud of white smoke that instantly makes him age for centuries and kills him.

The tale of Urashima Taro serves as a cautionary story about the consequences of meddling with the unknown and the fleeting nature of time. It explores themes of curiosity, gratitude, and the inevitable passage of life.
