Seattle UseR Meetup
June 2020

UseR Seattle has a special treat for those of you interested in learning how to expand your visualization skill-set, or just learning more about how some great visualizations are made! In this meetup we will have Helen Miller and Jason Taylor take us through how to use the R package R2D3!

D3 is a javascript library with seemingly limitless potential for custom interactive visualizations. If you haven't heard of it or are skeptical about its powers, you can see some examples in the D3 gallery (https://observablehq.com/@d3/gallery). R2D3 is an R package which allows you to inject R data into D3 plots, bringing the power of D3 to R users.
Jason will begin by demystifying the world of javascript and D3. In the second half of the talk, Helen will demonstrate how to use R2D3 to integrate D3 plots into your existing R workflows.

Speaker Bios:

Helen Miller:

Helen has used R for data visualization and analysis in both academic and operational settings. More recently, she has been working on methods to integrate R and javascript to visualize data, first at Mazama Science, and now at her position at Fred Hutch, where she currently works as a software developer.

Jason Taylor:

Jason Taylor has been using R professionally since 2011, and has previously given talks and workshops on programming in R and Python. He currently works at Fred Hutch as an application developer and a bioinformatics analyst.
