Days of Thunder: VERY strange plot pacing, you get thrown in immediately and maybe thats not bad but it feels weird for Cruise to already be this golden boy amazing driver 15 minutes in. Doesn't feel like theres a lot of character growth outside of the scenes with the wreckage but even that is fairly subtle. A movie doesn't need conventional plot or character growth to be good, and this film certainly has good driving sequences that make up for this but its about all there is. The driving is shot/edited really well and builds great tension. Stand out part of the film to me is the relationship between Cruise and Duvall, I thought it was great and wish the film had focused more on that because besides that relationship a lot here feels flat, which is strange because conceptually rather similar to Top Gun (replace F-14s with Chevys), also directed by Tony Scott, which does the character building and plot structure better but maybe that's just a script issue thats out of his hands
