I have a passion for the preservation of vintage film and still images. Something I have been doing for approximately 14 years. Not only do I believe it important to preserve and archive this material, I also believe that it should be freely disseminated to the world. This is why my website allows no advertising and nothing to be sold their. Up until a year ago I could afford to do this and bear the cost myself that is no longer the case. To continue as I have in the past I need some help. I need more equipment and the cost of new material is rising as more people see these items as something to collect and selfishly hoard rather than something to share with others. It is also important that you should know we have a time limit when dealing with old film. The film people keep in their garages, closets and attics is fast decaying to the point that would be impossible to recover anything from it, something I frequently run into. Nature is not kind to celluloid Cine’ film or negatives and a house fire or flood could mean the end of a generation’s long family archive.
So if you care anything about our history and the preservation of those photographs and films that wind up in garage sales antique stores estate sales Goodwill stores and in a worst-case scenario destroyed by fire or flood or wind up in the nearest landfill please consider a donation to the Office of Image Archaeology.
