With the birth of modern-day T20 cricket came new, unconventional cricket shots - few more popular than The Dilscoop. Pioneered by TM Dilshan, the Dilscoop aka The Ramp Shot/The Lap Shot takes extreme coordination and timing to execute - which makes it all the more fun to try!

There has been much discussion whether the Dilscoop is identical to the Marillier or Paddle scoop. However, according to former Australian captain Ian Chappell who was commentating during the above ICC World Twenty20, he had never seen any batsman play the ball straight over the wicket keeper's head as Dilshan. The shot earlier played by Doug Marillier during ICC World Cup was actually not directly overhead the wicketkeeper. According to Dilshan, he started practicing this stroke against a bowling machine during his tenure for Delhi Daredevils at the 2009 Indian Premier League (IPL) held in South Africa between April and May 2009.
