Hair fall / baldness is a very distressing condition males. If hairs present over the top of scalp of a person are hyper sensitive to di-hydro-testosterone (DTH), they will fall once adulthood started. That is why this type of hair fall is called androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness. Some patients has family pattern of baldness, as it has been seen that males with baldness frequently has paternal or maternal family members affected by baldness.
Is transplanted hair permanent?
Transplanted hair behaves like normal hair, it will grow, it will become gray with age, and you can cut it, dye it and style it as you want.
What is a safe donor area?
It is a crescent shaped area on the back of the scalp, which contains hair that did not fall even with extreme baldness, because these hair follicles are highly resistant to di-hydro-testosterone’s (DHT) harmful effects, thus this area is considered as safe donor area.
Which method is better FUT or FUE?
oth the techniques are good and safe in expert hand; both techniques have different clinical indications; inherent advantages and limitations. So, they have to be applied judiciously with clearly discussing with the patient.
What is body Hair transplant?
When the donor area is very small or the density is very low, additional hair follicles can be harvested from beard, chest, legs, and axilla. This technique is called as body hair transplant.
How many days after hair transplant I can go to work?
What is the recovery time? Patient can go back home on the same day after surgery. Patients are prescribed oral medicine for next 5 days for smooth recovery. He is advised to take rest at home for next 3-5 days before joining in office/job.
What about the pain?
The surgery is done under local anaesthesia, so patient does not feel any pain during surgery. Pain during recovery period at home is minimal and managed by oral tablets.
Is it so that implanted hair will fall immediately?
After how many months full results can be seen?
From the very next day, there will be visible growth of the implanted hair, which indicates successful graft take. However, by next 3 weeks, almost 70-90% of transplanted hair will fall; they will begin to re-grow one by one after 3 months which completed by next 9-12 months.
What are the side effects of hair transplant?
Hair Transplant is usually safe, but following complications can be seen in next few days after surgery are: facial swelling; pustule formation; skin necrosis; severe infection. Some late complications which can be seen after few weeks/months are: linear scar seen in FUT or dot scar seen in FUE donor area; poor hair growth and artificial looking hair transplant.
How smoking did effects the outcome of hair transplant?
Smoking or any forms of tobacco product consume causes micro-angeopaty, that means, blood supply to the skin get severally hampered. That is why skin necrosis and poor graft eruption is common to them. So this issue should be properly discussed between the surgeon and the doctor.
