SONOR SIGNATURE HLD 590 -TUNING

changing heads for tracking, thought id do a quick video of the tuning capabilities of this AMAZING drum!

specs:

1. Reso head already tensioned/tuned (remo ambassador snare side)
quite high tension, (always needed on 8' deep drums I find, as you lose sensitivity if the reso is tuned too loose)

2. batter head is an Evans EC2 frosted, with 1 piece of tape for dampening overtones

3. mics :
Audix i5 for top,
sure sm58 copy for reso
CAD c9 overheads

4. I initially tune by tension, not tone as much, you can see my tuning key hand has its own in-built 'tension watch' by feeling the tension between my thumb and index finger

I only bother to check the pitches at the end when i'm happy that there is even tension all around...

5. this may be be too cranked, or too low for your tastes, but this is where I find the drum sits nicely in a mix: not too gutless and pingy, not too boomy and low...
