Many narcissistic parents consider their children extensions of themselves and they will not treat individual children the same. Narcissist tend to treat one child better than the other, that child is known as the golden child. The golden child will be treated in such a way that they are to reflect the grandiosity of the narcissistic parents. That child will be adorned and have many gifts and special treatment bestowed on them. These gifts and treatment are very transactional, and the child is taught transactional love. The golden child may have their college paid for them, they may have their car paid for them. The Golden is intended to reflect the grandiosity of the narcissistic mother or father.  this child is held to an incredibly high standard, and any failures will be punished severely. The scapegoat child will be treated poorly and not receive the same level of attention and admiration as the golden child. Many times the golden child becomes a borderline or a narcissist themselves, and at the very least will have severe trauma wounds that can present as codependency at the very least and CPTSD.
