If your child is having clusters of involuntary movements like these, and especially if he or she has vacant eyes and can't be brought out of it with touch or talking to the child, it could be infantile spasms. Try to get a video of them and take it with you to your child's doctor immediately. Infantile spasms have been called "a neurological emergency" by the experts. Even though they look very subtle, they can be devastating to development and may translate into lifelong disabilities, delays, and multiple seizure types. There are treatments that can be successful, but they must be initiated as soon as possible to give the child the best chance at seizure cessation and optimal development. As of February of 2011, my daughter has been seizure free for almost 19 months and her development is catching up to her peers--walking, "talking," learning new things all the time. There is hope, but you must act quickly.
