The Su Xiangmao case is the tragic story of a successful tech entrepreneur, the founder of the WePhone app, who took his own life after being manipulated and driven to despair by his ex-wife, Zhai Xinxin.

Initially, Zhai Xinxin approached Su through a matchmaking site, appearing gentle and sincere. They quickly moved towards marriage, but after their wedding, Zhai revealed her true nature, persistently demanding assets and money. She made outrageous demands, from asking for a luxury villa to limitless extravagant spending, and regularly threatened Su with divorce if he did not comply. After their divorce, Zhai continued to demand emotional damages amounting to $1.3 million and threatened to report Su's company for legal violations, using her supposedly "powerful" uncle as leverage against him.

With no other choice, Su was forced to agree to pay the money and surrender assets, but the financial and mental pressure continued to weigh heavily on him, causing him to deteriorate. Under Zhai's relentless threats, Su ultimately ended his life, leaving behind a final message accusing Zhai of being the cause of his despair.

After Su’s death, his family publicly released evidence of Zhai's manipulation, including audio recordings, messages, and an unfair divorce agreement, demanding a fair investigation. The case drew widespread public attention, and many of Zhai's secrets were uncovered, from her past marriages to fabrications about her "powerful uncle." Ultimately, in a 2023 ruling, the court ordered Zhai Xinxin to return all assets and money to Su's family and confirmed that she had coerced and threatened Su during the divorce process. Zhai was arrested and now faces a sentence of more than 10 years in prison.
